Pomona Suburb Profile

Pomona is a relaxed country town nestled at the foot of Mount Cooroora, it is situated 135kms from Brisbane and 24kms from Noosa. Pomona was originally settled in the late 1880s and the railway that arrived in 1891 jump started the expansion of the agricultural industries in the area. Following its settlement, the town was known as ‘Pinbarren Siding’. It was not until 1906 that the area’s name was officially changed to Pomona, invoking the moniker of the Roman goddess of fruit and orchards. Must do activities around Pomona include the pleasant and easy walking tracks around various parks and a visit to the Majestic Cinema. The cinema, built as the Majestic Hall in 1921, is the oldest continuously running silent movie cinema in the world. A visit to the Noosa Museum and Pomona’s Railway Station Gallery should be high on every visitors list!
